GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear music colleague,

We at the DaCapo Chamber Choir are pleased to announce that the 2017NewWorkschoral composition competition is now open.

The purpose of the NewWorks competition is to foster new and engaging choral works by Canadian composers. We are continually looking for new pieces to perform which will challenge us and our audiences - both musically and emotionally.

This year, while there is no required “theme,” we are encouraging composers to express their ideas simply…submitting entries in SATB, with very minimal a2 divisi permitted. The winning entry of the 2017 competition will receive a $1,500 cash award plus travel expenses to Kitchener to attend the premiere of his/her composition by the DaCapo Chamber Choir, under director Leonard Enns, in the choir’s 2017/2018 season. We are also inviting young composers (aged 25 and younger) to submit compositions for consideration in our Young Composers Reading Sessions.
Entry deadline is March 13th, 2017.

We are sending you competition brochures (that include entry forms) that we hope you will display in an appropriate location and promote this competition with your colleagues and/or students. You should be receiving this package later this week (or early next). Full information is available on our web site: www.dacapochamberchoir,ca/newworks. If you have an online bulletin, we would greatly appreciate if you could include information about the competition being open, the URL, and the entry deadline.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Sara Martin, manager

INVITATION FOR CHOIRS TO PERFORM AT THE MISERICORDIA HOSPITAL

The Recreation Therapist at Misericordia Hospital (Kayla Kruger) books musicians to sing and play music for her patients (who are mostly seniors) on the 4th floor.

She writes, "I believe music has great healing power."

Kayla wants to provide a wide variety of musical entertainment and extends an invitation to choirs to sing for her patients. She is open to have choirs perform any day though the week. This would be a great opportunity for choirs to perform, and would, at the same time, be very fulfilling for everyone involved.

For more information, contact Kayla directly.

CBC MUSIC INVITES CHOIRS TO CREATE ARTIST PAGES ON CBCMusic.ca

A CBC Music artist page is your online gateway to Canada’s vast and diverse musical community. It is a multifaceted tool for self-promotion so that, no matter what genre you specialize in, you can showcase your valuable contributions to our cultural landscape.

With the creation of a CBC Music artist page, you can:

Create an artist profile that includes a bio, photos, links to your website(s) and social media accounts.

Upload (unlimited amounts of) your music and videos to be seen and heard by the public. Listeners can create custom playists with artist-uploaded tracks.

Promote your upcoming events on the CBC Music concert calendar. This calendar is searchable by date, location and genre, and is one of the most comprehensive concert listings in Canada.

Maintain a personal blog where you can provide up-to-date news about your activities.

Gain fans who can “like” your page. You then gain an automatic fan feed that emails your fans whenever you add new music, announce an event, or make any other significant changes to your page.

In addition, CBC Music periodically features various artist pages, so there’s a chance you could receive added exposure.

How do I create a CBC Music artist page?
It’s easy! But you need a CBC Music member profile first. You can create one by clicking the red “JOIN” button on the CBC Music homepage and following the steps. Once you’re finished, you’ll be given the option to create an artist page within your member profile. You can create and host as many artist pages as you’d like on a single member profile. That way, if you are in several groups, or manage a roster of artists, you can manage a separate artist page for each of them.

Last month alone, CBCMusic.ca received over 3 million page views. Exposure of this magnitude is invaluable for any choir!
