The Alberta Children's Choir provides an opportunity for children between the ages of 11 and 15 from across the province to pursue excellence in choral music under the direction of an internationally recognized choral conductor. Conductors and teachers from across the province are encouraged to recommend their best singers to participate in this choir.

GUEST CONDUCTOR — GLENDA CRAWFORD

In the course of a 20-year career in all levels of music education Glenda Crawford has proven to be a dynamic and energetic educator dedicated to the highest musical standards through performance, teaching and research. Having extensive practical experience in choral conducting, she has worked with a number of ensembles in North America, producing choirs of outstanding quality and performing in the world’s best concert halls in North America and Europe.

Crawford has held positions at Brock University, Xavier University, Cincinnati and St. Ambrose University, Iowa.  Prior to competing her doctorate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Choral Conducting, she was the founder and artistic director of The Oakville Children’s Choir and Artistic Director of the Milton Choristers. 

Crawford has been guest clinician at various choral workshops in Ontario, including the Peel Board of Education and the Kodaly Society of Ontario.  She is an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.  She has taught conducting technique, voice, choral literature and musicianship.  Her musical interests include Renaissance choral music, the child’s voice and female conductors. 

Crawford holds a DMA from University of Cincinnati, a Masters of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Western Ontario.  She was the recipient of the Oakville Arts Leadership award and Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her work with the Oakville Children’s Choir.

GUEST CONDUCTOR — JOAN GREGORYK

Joan Gregoryk, Founder and Artistic Director Emerita of the Children’s Chorus of Washington (CCW), is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of children’s vocal music. She developed a children's chorus at Chevy Chase Elementary School (Maryland), which for many years performed with the National Symphony Orchestra. In 1995 she founded CCW with the goal of providing outstanding choral music education for children from throughout metropolitan Washington, DC. She has prepared choruses for performances with leading conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Helmuth Rilling, Leonard Slatkin,Valery Gergiev, and Christoph Eschenbach.Ms. Gregoryk is in demand as a workshop leader and guest conductor throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. She has conducted numerous district and state children’s honors choruses and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Children’s Honors Chorus in the Southern, Southwestern, and Eastern Divisions. In March, she will conduct the 2017 ACDA National Honors Children’s Chorus in Minneapolis, MN. Ms. Gregoryk has received many honors including Outstanding Arts Educator in the United States from the Rockefeller Brothers Funds Awards in Arts Education, the Maryland Outstanding Elementary Music Educator Award, the Conservatory Medal of Excellence from Shenandoah University, and the 2015 DC Area Choral Excellence “Ovation” Award for her outstanding contributions to choral music
